Almost a year ago we got in touch with Bristol City FC, founded in 1897 and currently playing in the Football League Championship. Through BCFC’s Community Trust, they have a wide experience in educating their community, with a focus in engaging and inspiring young people. During the last week a group of 14 young entrepreneurs from Bristol City FC studying their three-year BA Sports Business and Entrepreneurship course visited WATS Team in Bilbao.

We were really looking forward to meeting them, as we also have a deep commitment to educating our community. At WATS Team we currently have three education programs: a Coach Academy, Bootcamp sessions for young athletes through their clubs and schools, and a one year Master’s Degree in Sport Innovation along with Mondragon University.

Founded in 2016, WATS Team is a startup born from Mondragon Team Academy (MTA), a startup hub from Mondragon University in the Basque Country. Our unique methodology comes from Finland, a well renowned country for its excellence in education. We are commited to educating young athletes and coaches in human values and in violence prevention, and also with innovation and entrepreneurship in sports.

Dialogue, values, work sessions and beautiful sights

Polly Wardle, deputy Head of Education at BCFC’s Community Trust, and Daniel Daly, one of the mentors of the group of young entrepreneurs from Bristol City FC, had the opportunity to meet Alex Navarro, Antonio Pipaón and Lander Iraragorri, WATS Team co-founders, to discover more about our activities. They really enjoyed “the dialogue, values, work sessions and beautiful sights”, as the group also had some time to visit some of the main cultural spots of Bilbao. We really enjoyed the experience of getting to know each other and will be travelling to Bristol in October to discover more about BCFC’s Community Trust and their commitment to raising and celebrating education achievement.
